‘I he taimi na’e kei ako ai homa ki’i eldest daughter (our miracle baby) ‘i he Primary School, na’e ‘ohovale pe ‘a e fo’i taimi ‘oku ou fakatokanga’i ‘oku ‘i ai ‘a e me’a faikehe ‘oku hoko ki ai. Ko e ki’i ta’ahine na’e longomo’ui. Pea ko ‘ene ha’u ma’upe he tuku ‘a e akoo kuopau ke ‘alu ia ki tu’a ki homau backyard ‘o va’inga mo hono ki’i little brother pea na lova (race) takai holo ‘i tu’a pea na heka pasikala. She was so active and cheerful! Ka ‘i hono ta’u 9 nai ‘oku ou fakatokanga’i ko ‘ene ha’u pe ia he tuku ‘a e akoo ‘o fetongi hono vala akoo pea mohe. Pea u fakatokanga’i hangee ‘oku tuletulee, ‘ikai to e longomo’ui. Pea ko ‘eku ‘eke koee ki ai pe koehaa e me’a ‘oku hoko ki aii pea ne talamai ‘oku ongo’i hela’ia pea ‘ikai ke ‘i ai hano ivi. Na’a ku ‘alu ‘o ‘ave ki he’emau family doctor pea ne hanga ‘o ‘omai ‘ene fo’i ‘akau.

A’u ki he taimi ‘oku ou fakatonga’i ‘oku breathless pea ketu hono va’ee. Kou ‘eke ki ai pe koehaa e me’a ‘oku hoko ki hono va’ee ‘oku ketu aii, talamai ‘e ia ‘oku mamahi hono va’ee. Pea u toe ‘alu ‘o ‘ave ki he’emau family doctor ‘o ne sivi pea ne to e ‘omai pe ‘a e fo’i ‘akau. Ka neongo hono fakafolo ‘ene fo’i’akauu ka na’a ku fakatokanga’i ‘oku hangee ‘oku ‘alu pe taimii ke to e kovi ange ‘a e health homa daughter. Kou toutou talaange ki hoku husband ke ma oo ‘o ‘ave homa daughter ki falemahaki lahi kenau sivi pe koehaa e me’a ‘oku hoko ki aii because I could sense that there was some serious health issue ‘oku hoko ki homa daughter. Talamai hoku husband ke tuku ‘eku worry kapau na’e ‘i ai ha serious health issue kuo fuoloa hono ‘ilo he’emau family doctor pea kuo ne ‘osi refer kimautolu ki he main hospital.

Ka ‘i hoku lotoo I could sense that there was something terribly wrong with our daughter ka ‘oku ‘ikai detect ia ‘e he family doctor. Na’a ku lotu ki he ‘Eikii ke Ne reveal mai mu’a pe koehaa e me’a ‘oku hoko ki homa daughter he ‘oku ha’u pe ia he tuku ‘a e akoo ‘o mohe pea ‘ikai fie kai pea ‘ikai to e active like before and she was so pale and looked sick. Na’a ku ‘alu  ‘o research he internet pe koehaa e fa’ahinga mahaki ‘oku pehee ai homa daughter. Ko ‘eku conclusion after my research, ko e mahaki pe ‘e 2. Either ko e leukemia pe ko e heart disease. Na’a ku ‘osi fakapapau’i ai pe teu ‘alu ‘o ‘ave homa daughter ki he main hospital.

‘I he fo’i efiafi ‘o e uike pe ko iaa, ‘ohovale pe kuo hu ange homa ki’i daughter ki homa lokii ‘o pehee ange kiamaua: “mom and dad, ‘oku ou feinga keu mohe ka ‘oku ‘ikai keu lava ‘o mohe koe’uhii ko e le’o ia ‘oku toutou lea pe ia ‘i hoku telingaa keu ha’u ‘o talaatu kiamoua ke ‘ave leva au ki falemahaki lahi ‘oua to e tatali. I tried to ignore that voice ka ‘oku toutou lea pe ia ‘i hoku telingaa pea ka ‘ikai keu ha’u ‘o talaatu kamoua ‘a e fekau ‘oku ne talamaii, that voice would not leave me alone pea he’ikai keu lava au ‘o mohe”.

Na’a ma tu’u hake ai pe he taimi ko iaa ‘omau oo ki falemahaki lahi (Westmead Children Hospital). Na’e ‘osi ‘enau sivi homa daughter pea nau talamai ‘e fakatokoto koe’uhii he ‘ou fiema’u ia ke fai hono ngaahi sivi koe’uhii ‘oku nau tui ‘oku palopalema hono mafuu. Na’e ‘osi hono ngaahi sivii ‘o nau pehee ko e ‘uhinga ‘oku pehee ai homa daughter he ‘oku ava loua e kau hono mafuu. Na’a nau fakatumutumu ‘a e ‘ikai ke fai mo detect ‘e he’emau family doctor ko hono mafuu na’e palopalemaa. Na’a nau pehee na’e tonu pe ke fai mo ne detect he te ne ongo’i pe ‘a e ki’i murmur ‘i hono mafuu ko e faka’ilonga ia ‘o e heart valves disease. Na’e pehee ‘e he kau toketaa mafuu ko e tu’unga ‘a e ava e kau hono mafuu he na’e puke homa daughter he’ene kei pepee he fa’ahinga mofi ‘oku lava kene uesia hono mafuu koe’uhii he na’e puke homa ki’i daughter he’ene kei pepee he fa’ahinga mofi ko e rheumatic fever. Pea ‘oku fakatu’utamaki he ‘oku hanga ‘e he rheumatic fever ‘o uesia hono mafuu ‘o a’u pe ia ki he ava e ongo kau hono mafuu (heart valves). Na’a ku manatu’i na’e ‘i ai ‘eku business trip ki he fonua ‘e taha na’a ku ‘alu pe ai mo ‘ema ki’i baby daughter pea ko e uhouhonga ia ‘o e momoko lahi ‘a e fonuaa, pea na’e mofi lahi ‘aupito ‘ema ki’i baby daughter ‘o fakatokoto he falemahaki ‘i he fonua ko iaa.

Pea tafa ai pe he falemahaki ‘a homa ki’i daughter ‘onau fixed e kau e taha hono ki’i mafuu kae totally replaced ‘a e kau ‘e taha hono ki’i mafuu. Na’a ku sio tonu ai ki he fakaofo ‘a e ‘Eikii he na’e ‘i ai e fa’ahinga courage ‘i homa ki’i daughter ko e ha’u pe ia mei he ‘Otuaa. Ngaahi me’a ia mo e ngaahi faito’o na’e expect ‘e he kau toketaa ia ‘e tangi pe te ne fakahaa’i ha fa’ahinga fotunga mamahi mo ta’efiemalie, ka na’a nau ‘ohovale na’a ne tali ‘aki pe ‘e ia ‘a e malimali, and she was sooo peaceful. Ka ko e taimi koee ‘oku ma nofo tokoua ai ‘i hono ki’i lokii ‘i falemahakii, na’a ne talamai leva kia au: “Mom, ‘oku ou brave pehee koe’uhii ko e ‘Eikii ‘oku ne ‘iate au ma’upe ke ne tokoni’i au”. The doctors were so amazed ‘i he’ene recovery vave ‘aupito ‘i hono tafaa. Na’a nau pehee ‘e take time ke heal mo recover mo toki lava ‘o tu’u. Ka na’a nau ‘ohovale he’ene tu’u vave, heal mo recover vave ‘aupito. Pea to e vave pe foki ‘ema ‘ataa ki ‘apii. Neongo na’e fou ia ‘i he tafa hono mafuu, ka na’a ku sio tonu ‘i he divine intervention pea mo e tokoni ‘a e ‘Eikii ‘o heal mo recover vave ‘aupito. And I was so amazed at how peaceful she was the whole time we were at hospital!!

Ko e me’a ‘e taha na’a ne vahevahe mai kiate au. Talamai ‘e ia na’e lolotonga koee hono tafaa, na’e fiu ia he feinga ke lea hake ki he kau toketaa kenau ‘ilo’i ‘oku ‘ikai ke mohe ia (‘i hono fakamohee) ka ‘oku ‘a’aa pe ia ‘oku ne ‘ilo pe ‘e ia ‘a e ngaue ‘oku fai ‘e he kau toketaa mo e kau neesii ki aii. Pea ‘oku ne ‘ilo’i pe ‘e ia ‘a ‘enau leaa. Pea na’a ne witness pe ‘e ia ‘a e fo’i taimi lolotonga hono tafaa ‘oku hangee ‘oku nau panic ai pea hangee ‘oku nau feleleaki mo mata’i panic. Ka na’e fiu ia he feinga ke lea hake kenau ‘ilo ‘oku ‘ikai ke mohe ia, ka ‘oku ‘ikai pe kenau ‘ilo ia ‘enautolu ‘oku ‘a’a (conscious) pe ia. They couldn’t hear her! Pea ne talamai ko e me’a pe ‘e taha na’e ‘ohovale ia aii he neongo na’e ‘a’a pe ia (conscious) ka na’e ‘ikai ke ne ongo’i ‘e ia ha mamahi ‘e taha (pain) neongo ‘oku nau lolotonga fai ‘a e ngaue ki hono sinoo.

Na’e hoko ‘a e vahevahe homa daughter kema fakafeta’i lahi ai ki he ‘Eikii he’ene fakamo’ui na’e fai kiate ia ‘one to e ma’u ai ‘a e mo’uii. And she is now a healthy and active young lady just like any normal teenager. Neongo ‘oku vili ia he taimi ni ‘oku fie ‘alu ia ‘o kau he tau ‘akapulu ‘a e kakai fefinee, ka ‘oku ‘ikai loto ki ai ‘ene tamaii cos it’s a rough sport ke si’i kau ai. We are so grateful to God for giving us back our miracle baby neongo na’e feinga ‘a e filii ke ne to’o ‘ene mo’uii. Kae fakafeta’i she is still with us today because of the goodness of God.
